The Swamp Road Chronicles®
"Coyotes"
Here's
my story, believe it or not, every word is true. I'm a true believer in Swamp
Road Sally because I had a face-to-face with her one night. It was about 23
years ago, I don't remember the date exactly, but the events of that night are
as clear to me now as if it happened last night.
I
was on my way to look at a man's trailer he had for sale. I was driving down Swamp Road and getting near that creek that flows under the road about halfway down the road. I saw Sally! She was standing
on the right side of the road. I had never seen her before, but I have heard
enough about her to know her when I see her. She was about 17, dressed in a
long white night gown-looking dress sort of thing. She looked as solid and real
as any girl you have ever seen. She was pointing with her left arm way out into
the field. I looked the way she was pointing, but I didn't see anything. When I
looked back at her she was gone!
Where
she had been standing I saw something white lying on the gravel at the road's
edge. I stopped, and got out to see what it was. I was half expecting to find a
skull. What I found was a baby bottle. A plastic, empty baby bottle. As I was
looking at it I heard the sound of a baby crying way out there in the field.
I
wasn't born yesterday, I have read about people being led to their deaths by
the sound of a child crying for help out in a marsh or moor. I looked out into
that field and way in the back I could see what appeared to be 2 large coyotes
trotting along at a rapid clip. The biggest one, in front, was carrying
something in its mouth. It looked like a bundle of something white. I couldn't
tell what it was. I couldn't hear the baby anymore, and I know that some
animals, when they are afraid or hurt, can make a sound very much like a baby
crying. A rabbit makes a sound like that when it's caught by a predator.
I
didn't know what to do. I thought Sally may have been showing me a baby being
carried off by coyotes and she had wanted me to save it. Maybe it was just a
rabbit. Maybe the coyotes were simply moving their own pup to a safer den. I
don't know. Because I didn't know what was going on, I did nothing.
I
never heard of a missing baby in the area, but if someone had abandoned one,
they wouldn't report it missing, would they?
It
haunts my conscience that I may have failed to help an innocent child. I just
don't know and as I said, it truly haunts my conscience. If you post this
story, kindly change my name.
